OBAMA SAYS HE’LL COME OUT SWINGING IF TRUMP ENDS DACA: REPORT
President Donald Trump is expected to announce the end to DACA — with a six-month delay — on Tuesday.
If in fact he does, President Barack Obama reportedly plans on coming out swinging against Trump’s decision something he pledged to do at his last press conference.
Obama launched the program in 2012 via an executive order and will likely use his massive social media following to make his feelings known about Trump’s plan to end it.
As per Politico:
Obama’s current plan is to post a statement on Facebook and link to it on Twitter, where the former president has more than 94 million followers. In his final presidential press availability, he suggested that he would speak out if Trump went after the Dreamers — and that it was one of the few issues where he would feel morally compelled to do so. He said he would not remain silent in the face of “efforts to round up kids who have grown up here and for all practical purposes are American kids, and send them someplace else, when they love this country.”
Trump’s plan to end DACA has prompted criticism from both sides of the political fence, including from Republican Rep. James Lankford who issued a statement declaring: “It is right for there to be consequences for those who intentionally entered this country illegally. However, we as Americans do not hold children legally accountable for the actions of their parents.”
The possible end to DACA also brought about fierce backlash on social media, including some who noted “tearing families apart” is no way to make America great again.
